Job Analysis

JOB DESCRIPTION: Job is a shop position, responsible for using hand-welding or flame-cutting equipment to weld or join metal components, or to fill holes, indentations, or seams of fabricated metal products.

  • Ignites torches or starts power supplies and strikes arcs by touching electrodes to metals being welded, completing electrical circuits.

  • Clamps, holds, tack-weld, heat-bend, grind or bolts component parts to obtain required configurations and positions for welding.

  • Monitors the fitting, burning, and welding processes to avoid overheating of parts of warping, shrinking, distortion, or expansion of materials.

  • Must be able to concentrate on a task over a period of time without being distracted.

  • Needs the ability to keep hand and arm steady while moving the arm or while holding the hand in one position.

  • Needs the ability to see details at close range while he is doing his job function.

  • Needs the ability to quickly and repeatedly adjust the controls of a machine or a vehicle to exact positions. They also need the ability to quickly move the hand, the hand together with the arm, the fingers, or two hands to grasp, manipulate, or assemble objects.
